It’s been a while! I’m now talking to you a year older.
Last weekend, I celebrated my birthday. I’ve never really cared about my birthday. There’s so much pressure around the day, and it’s easy to be disappointed when you expect a lot. So I generally like to keep the day pretty low-key.
That being said, this year was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had. My friends basically left it all up to me, and I got to do exactly what I wanted to do with them along for the ride.
First things first, I needed a manicure. I’m awful at doing my own nails. Somehow 9 years of painting experience failed to translate to being able to paint a solid color onto my fingernails. We went to Sugar Nail in Koreatown, and I left with a cute gel design for spring.
Then we went out for a girls night at the Line Hotel, the second stop on our search for some hip hop to dance to. Highlights: an uber driver sing along and blurry Instagram stories. I went for a full lewk (below). You can’t tell in this picture, but that shirt is the infamous 3 wolves howling at the moon shirt with the best Amazon reviews I’ve ever read. The wolves pulled through and brought me an insanely fun night. I paired it with a black, ribbed miniskirt, black stilettos, a choker and these dutch braids.
My girls also sneakily found out my favorite hair product line — R+Co, that was on my to buy list anyways, and gifted me an awesome birthday present. I love the texturizing shampoo. It’s my secret to voluminous, wavy hair. And they got me the color line, because my hair is never not colored. So thoughtful 🙂
The next morning on the day of my actual birthday, we visited Ledlow for brunch. It’s in downtown LA, right next to PYT. It’s intimate and cute with marble tables and a little patio seating area.
I got the biggest plate of pancakes I’ve ever seen, and my girls both got the breakfast combo. And fries, obviously, although they were more like potato chunks.
With food babies, we went to Larchmont for a little walk and shop. We hit up Diptyque, Pressed Juice and LF. It was almost spring weather. I’m wearing a Zara suede jacket, American Apparel sweater and vintage black shorts. And I’ve been obsessed with these little round glasses that aren’t prescription, but are really good at hiding the fact that I didn’t bother with makeup.
And because I’m an adult now, I spent the rest of my Saturday working with my friend at Eightfold Coffee in Silverlake. At least the aesthetic was inspiring.
All in all, I had a rad birthday, and it was all thanks to these girls.
I’m so grateful and happy. Here’s to an even better year than the last. Let’s make some memories! x, Wendy
